1494 discovered Christopher Columbus Jamaica, and he claimed Jamaica to Spain. 1510 came the Spanish to Jamaica and settled down. The capital of Jamaica was moved to Spanish Town. There were many pirate attacks under the time when Spain ruled over Jamaica.
1600 was all the Arawak – Indians dead
1654 invaded England Jamaica and took control over the country. For the next 200 years Jamaica became one of worlds leading sugar- exporting, which had slave workers in the plantations. Jamaica became the nation with most slaves in the Caribbean.
1739 there were many slaves, called Maroons, who escaped. They established independent communities, which the British were unable to inhabit.
1775-89 there were much slave rebellions, the British was unable to stop the rebellions by force so they made up many false promises of freedom for the slaves.
1830 were the Mulattos allowed to vote.
1831 broke the Baptist War out. This war was originally a peaceful strike against the British, but became a bloodbath, 20 000 slave rebels and 400 of them were hanged.
1834 were slaves given freedom, but many slaves were bound to their former owners, four years later were all the slaves free.
1872 became Kingston the capital of Jamaica.
1930 gave Jamaica food to England under the 2.W.W. The years after Jamaica slowly became more independent.
1962 got Jamaica finally self-government.
